I put a 4 barrel on the 300 I6 in my F150 Check out Clifford Performance https://www.cliffordperformance.net/
For the 200, a four bbl or even 2bbl is so overkill it's ridiculous. Intake isn't removable as on the 240/300, adapters stick the carb through the hood.
So keep it single barrel? Can someone recommend a carburetor for a 200 i6, that'll be my next repair to hopefully get rid of the sputters, even if it isn't, would like to replace the old one , thank you.
Is your car's carburetor a Carter YF like the one at the following link? I'm confident there are sources other than Auto Zone that carries these carburetors. You get your core charge back once your old carb. has been returned. https://www.autozone.com/fuel-delivery/carburetor/united-carburetors-carburetor/169519_0_1886 Perhaps other members can help with identification. I have precious little knowledge concerning Ford 6 cylinder parts. I've just read posts from other members about Carter YFs being on these engines.
I suggest you rebuild your current carb. Carbs are jetted differently year to year....and sometimes the linkage can be different.
My hose from the gas tank to the fuel line was totally rotted out & it was the cause of my sputtering & gas smell. I just replaced it today & my 71 drives like a dream. No sputtering. Seafoam also cleared out my start up smoke.
The hose was rotted before the leak began. The cracks in the hose allow air to get in to begin the sputtering. If the hose has never been changed I recommend changing it. You can't inspect it without lowering the tank.
Carb rebuild is where I would start. I found it best to keep the Original carb that is in it and get IT rebuilt rather than swap it out. Also for about $120 you can switch over to electrionic ignition ($80 for ignition + $30 for a coil). Very easy to do, takes maybe 20 minutes.
True.. I took my car to a mechanic I've known for years, he'll get back to me next week, wish me luck fellas, I want to drive this car already
I agree with Craig, I bought a rebuilt and after a short while had problems again. Had my original rebuilt and car runs beautifully.
Well I finally got my comet back bout a week ago my mechanic did an "R&R carb and clean" and freed up the distributor if u guys can elaborate on the carb and clean, it would be much appreciated, was driving it fine for about 3 days then it started running rough after I put in non ethanol gas, and at stops it will run weak and most times cut off, I told my mechanic and he said it could possibly be the carb is just so old and to look to buying a new one especially for in the winter weather , I told him I'll bring it back to him to find a solution , I've been lookin at some holly ones on line would those with the electric choke be better than just the ones these originally came with could u guys recommend a good holly for an online 6? Should I go with that or do you suggest a carb rebuild, I know I've read a couple u guys recommending to have it rebuild, but I think I would feel more comfortable with a new one what do you guys think??
