Thanks for all the tips. No, I have not fiqured it out YET! BUT I WILL! I will try some of the ideas you guys gave me above and let you know. I am wondering now if the converter could be bowing the flexplate. The converter drain plug did not line up with the stock hole so maybe that it it. I would LOVE to find out it is just the spacer plate that is bent. Yes, everything is the same except the converter.. Try it after work tonight. Thanks all, keep the ideas coming... Scott

(I did take it around the block once or twice. WOW, what a difference a proper stall converter can do for torque. Almost a bit scary lighting uo the tires at almost any speed! Can't wait to get it running 100% and off to the track)

    Still problems

OK, now I am really confused. Pulled the converter bolts off. Yep, the converter will wiggle left to right to some degree (that is good) and it will move forward and backwards to a slight degree (less than 1/16", also good). Put chalk on the bolts, spun the motor and the chalk stayed in tact! ERRRRRR. Put it all back together and started it up, same slight scraping sound for 30 seconds, THEN IT WENT AWAY!!!! When i shut it down there was a screech (same as before). fired it back up, scraping sound for 30 seconds then gone! I am FRUSTRATED!! DO I really want to pull the motor out or drop the tranny again????? Ideas? Scott:mad:

another long shot, but is it possible that the starter relay or ignition switch might be sticking, causing the bendix to stay engaged longer than normal? Just another thought FWIW

What would be an easy way of checking that? I have changed solenoids twice, no help. BUT, the ignistion switch or starter relay could be a culprit.. What would I do without something to fuss with every night? Scott

(I have till Saturday, then I need to get it down to the tire shop for the new drag radials and centerlines, so I have motivation!)

    Mine squeels BEFORE

My starter squeels before the engine cranks, it's a new starter and has done this since day one. Doesn't do it all of the time, but when it does, I just get someone to help me manually turn the engine just a bit, and it fires right up. The flywheel is not hurt, so I think it's just a bad starter. As long as it DOES crank though, I'll leave it alone. Country

I did, no dice. Guess that is a good thing! I am becoming more convinced that it is a starter issue (although nothing there changed) since the teeth on the first starter were chewed off! And the flywheel teth became a little sharp. The noise seems to fade after a few minutes at idle. If it were structural I would think that would be consistant. Very frustrating! maybe a new starter this weekend as I am geting REAL GOOD at pulling them in 10 minutes or less! GOOD NEWS.. I did road test it, albeit the noise factor, the stall flashed at about 2700rpm and was , well A BLAST! I may take my NOS system off the car, it is a lot of fun without it! Can't wait to get the P275 drag radials on this weekend and hook em up! Scott

THANKS to all for the tips, this board is AWESOME! Keep em coming....

Would the converter still operate?? It runs/drives fine.. If my converter moved all the way back for the studs to pull out, that would be a lot of movement.in calling a loca sho today they said a converter propoerly engaged wil move maybe 1/4" at the most. Scott
