throwing a brick at the starter solenoid MIGHT "unstick" it Reminds me of a friend of mine with a '72 Mav. He had a problem with a sticking solenoid, used to carry a big wrench in the car to beat the solenoid when it acted up.
hey Isn't the ignition switch/key still a possibility? I like the test....I mean after the starter relay checks out.
ok here is the deal its the ignition switch,,burned contacts let the voltage continue to energise the solinoid only when it got hot, like turning it over to prime the fuel pump..and hot days when it expanded. fth73 thanx, you must be a doc,cuz you have great patience...to all whom gave opinions, the obvious was to say mis wire, not always true, stuff does wear out,,and as far as the diode, its not on the same ckt to feed back, that only goes to keep the ignition from back feeding to the msd from the voltage regulator,,so,keep in mind, the intermittent prob was burned contacts on the switch, leading to expansion on hot use,or days, and stuck internally enough to energise the sol..thanx again although ive not replaced it back onto the column, its just a push of the rod,and off it goes..but whats funny, is every time i start it, cuz it was intermittent, i still get the gut feeling of hoping it doesnt stick,,it didnt happen every time, but when it did, man, your heart went into your throat..rushing to cut the battery power off the solinoid,,geez..oh well, thanx, tom
