How many of you built your own garage vs purchasing metal building, what are pros/cons with 2 door, single door?

Doors.jpg I put up a 1480 sq' 2x6 stick frame garage. On paper it holds 3 cars, in reality I have had 6 in there. I installed two garage doors, one normal 10' and one oversize 14' wide by 12' tall to accommodate a truck with ladder rack. If I did it again I would have used two over sized doors instead of one small door and reduced the space between the two doors. I find it easier to swing cars in the oversize door.

About what size and whats going in it ? ...

If a work-in garage, handy to have separate man door in front. if mainly for car storage , for me more car doors the better . Small or big, won't take long to fill .

In this area Pole Barns are typical.

What type of floor does the barn have? Not seeing a concrete slab!

A feature about traditional Pole Barns' is no floor is typically required in construction, even in regulated zoning areas. Technically the Poles into undisturbed earth are considered the 'foundation' .

Traditionally you start with one hole and move corners until fairly square. Then poles are added in between - anywhere you don't hit too big a rock to pullout, they don't even need to be even.

Laminated wood - spliced poles are revolutionizing the construction, long poles not required ...

For floor a PT 'band' is simply placed around outside bottom of poles and concrete poured as needed. Most for Ag use don't more than gravel.

    Planed and sealed concrete

That's a very nice setup! Never thought much about a Pole Barn different from large/oversize garage -- Thanks for clarification. So, typically, a slab is poured, only if requested? What's sq. footage?

Yes only if requested or required, I have a Blacktop paved floor in another barn - sq footage - Size is the thickness of your wallet and local ordinances ... use 24X36 work barn, 32x36 dry clean car storage.

Unfortunately a work transfer took away my 28' x 30' wood frame garage. I got a great price on it by finding a place that factory built the walls. It had an 8' door and a 16' door plus a man door on one of the end walls. Room to pull cars in and still have workbenches across the back wall.
