this was brought to my attention by a fellow mavericker about swap headers for his 351w. i called b******t but he proved me wrong in the catalog. summit claims they have a header that will fit mavericks/comets 69-74 with 351w. i found it in my summit catalog (pg 57 in jan/feb issue) part #: SUM-G9031 and on their site at http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=SUM-G9031&view=32&N=700+150+&No=20#rstop

i looked thru the applications and it doesnt say anything about a windsor in a maverick but on the last page of applications it states 69-74 Mercury Comet (which means maverick). so i wonder if this is really true? it lists alot of cars in it applications so this raises my curiousity.....

I tried them. Had a heck of a time getting them in. Called them and told them they fit like crap. They refunded my money. I scratched the heck out of them and repainted them black, and sent them back:)

For some reason, it is a common misprint or overlook in the aftermarket parts market that the 71-77 Comet are NOT related to earlier Comets which are based on the larger Fairlane.
    I see it alot.
    Just follow the rule:
If it doesn't specifically say "Comet AND Maverick", then they have lumped the later Comets in with the earlier Comets by accident or stupidity. Also watch for Comet listings that start before 71... if it says 66-77, for example, and doesn't include Maverick, you can bet the part is NOT for our cars.

I looked through what the headers fit, and that is what they have done here.
    Those headers are 6901 copies.
6901s will fit 351Ws in some cars, including early Fairlanes/Comets, but not ours.

I have to think about this. There is hundreds of opinions in this forum what headers fits and fits not. We have c4(157 tooth bell housing) 302 cid engine, uncutted towers and I still don't know does Hookers 6901 headers fit without problems. (I've read all posts of headers today)

I thought if 6901 goes to 351W it goes 302 as well:)

351W and 302 headers are different. I believe the 351W header is closer to the block since the heads are further out. So if you use them without spacers on a 302 they will have clearance problems. And the spacers are pretty expensive themselves from what I've heard.:)

Doesn't flow tech make a decent fitting header for our cars? I know the tubes are only 1 1/2". Not real sure how they compare in quality to the 6901's.
