Tom, don't bother. I stopped and looked at that one and it is a pile of sh!t. Interior is almost nonexistant and the guy told me the motor was "Tired". I don't believe it had a V8 either. If we are talking about the same one off of 41. The guy wanted $1850? for it and it looked like it was only worth $18.50
That's the one. Back a few months ago he did have $1,850 on the window. Couldn't see inside, but from what I did see, it was definitely a POS. Thanks for saving me a trip. Tom
When I stopped and talked to the guy he said he paid like $1400 for it from a guy in Arizona and he had to pay to get it up here. Said if he didn't get the $1850 he would probably fix it himself and put a big block in it if I remember correctly. If he does drop the price on it, it probably wont be much and in my opinion even at $1400 it still ain't worth it. The grabber hood and spoiler are about the only things worth anything on the car. Take care Tom and hopefully next fall (August or early Sept. before it gets too cold) us poor WI folk can have a mini meet up here. I've been throwing around a few dates and will be getting ahold of you soon.
why wait til "next" fall to host a mini-meet? do it in the winter or spring,.....after this one at matts next weekend,....the next is up for grabs...... just go ahead and do it!
my own opinion and its a bad one is that if your gonna go with the v-8 swap you might as well stuff a 557 BBF under hood and go all out <---- speed/power junkie on a side note i loved how my maverick drove when i first bougth it stock with the 302/c4... beautyful...
Tom, don't do it!! Can you buy a different car and setup the V8 in it. There is a decent red two door around here for sale. Its a 77 with a 91 roller, C4 and stock rear?
I say "Keep it all original!" I have a 73 that has never been screwed with. I really think it is great that your going to keep the car stock! There are plenty of mavs in good enough shape to do a v-8 swap. Just my opinion!
It's staying stock. After I finish rebuilding the motor and detailing the engine compartment I'll look for a v-8 Mav. One lesson learned: Never have two projects going at once. Last winter I was putting the 6 back together on my 72. Concurrently I had the interior stripped out of the 70 Grabber, was rebuilding the heater box, and swapping the distributor for a rebuild w/Pertronix conversion. I'd walk out in the garage eager to do something, and didn't know whether to sh*it or go blind. Every night I go to sleep planning the winter project on the 70. Yeah, I know, get a life. Tom
Just send it to me Tom and you wont have to worry about losing sleep............Oh wait, sending it to me may be worse
Something Else to Think About Tom, Did you get the latest Mustangs & Fords? On page 91 they are talking about the 'restomod' market. I gather from the article that the restomodified cars are fetching a higher price than their all stock counter part cars . . . no matter how rare they are! I understand what Craig and a few others are saying, but your car may be worth more to someone to have what they want in it, in this case a V-8 than the original I-6. I know when I had talked to you when I was at your house you mentioned taking your Grabber to a car show and it got some attention, but when people seen the I-6 the interest seemed to stop there. That tells me that the market is more interested in a V-8 than they are in a I-6. I get the opinon that you are not happy with the I-6 and the V-8 would be more enjoyable for you or you would have never posted this question to begin with! Heck I think it would be more fun for whoever is the next owner as well (create some demand). When people buy a car like yours looks are important, but just as important is how fun it is to drive! They want an old muscle car to have something under the hood to back up what they see on the outside. Just my .02 Check out the article. I thought of you when I read it. Sounds like the market is a changing. David
David, I just received the December issue of M&F. The article was interesting, but I'm staying stock. In fact, the motor is out and in pieces on the garage floor as we speak. I'd rather get the engine comp detailed and rebuild the six, then look for another V8 powered Mav V-8 later. I may even look around for, perish the thought, an early Mustang. Later.
Tom, Sounds great! I just thought I would share some insight on what I read. The most important thing is to be happy with whatever you do! Sounds like your project is underway . . . good luck and have fun! David
