How did you guys mount yours to the column? I put mine on the column with a large hose clamp. the only issue is it moves with the shift collar?
This is a pic I took of my shifter, but you can see the tach too. It's positioned like some others, between the two main pods, but instead of attaching it to the column I mounted it to the gauge bezel.
I have a 1-5/8" Stewart Warner Ultra-shift (digital tach / shift light) mounted on top of the column. Clear accurate rpm at a glance, bright yellow shift light that you can see without taking your eyes off the road. I love this tach.
This is completely off the original topic, but I might as well ask now so that I don't have to take a photo of my dash and post it and ask later... but DaveB, my Mav is '72 and my lower dash looks exactly like yours (minus that 3 gauge cluster you installed on the lower right). Is this how the lower dash was stock for that year? I mean, I have always assumed that this is how its supposed to look, but then again, it almost looks like the lower half of the dash is half finished and that there should be a glovebox or something there. Thanks.
Mine is on the dash mounted to a bracket that bolts in through the factory radio speaker grill so no further holes were drilled /cut.
I have mine mounted down by the emergency brake. It's a smaller one. But something has always made me wonder why everyone feels that it's so important to put it near the other gauges or in your line of sight. When I am racing I watch for the shift light out of my peripherary vision (the shift light is the small pencil sized one and mounted on the column pointed directly at my face). But personally, I'm always watching the track, where the car is going, and where my competitor is. My tach isn't a priority and I rely on that shift light. I consider the tach a diagnostic tool for when things are going haywire. I don't mean to offend anyone, but please tell me why it's so important to have it front and center? I'm just curious what information you are getting that it so much more important than how much fuel you have what warning lights are on on the dash and what speed you are going (more aimed toward the street car crowd). Like I said, I'm not critisizing anyone I just never understood why. Enquiring minds want to know.
It's a guy thing. Kinda like saying "my tack is bigger than yours" I personaly don't want it front and center, just where it can be seen and intimidating to the ricers. So there is SOME truth to my above statement.
