Well, 798 miles, 18 hours later, I have another Honda. The engine is definitely had it, it runs, but not very well. The clutch is almost gone as well, so I'll be putting a new clutch and everything in when I do the engine, which I'll probably do in another month or so. All in all, it's a great little car, clear coat is peeling, but overall it's in good shape, interior is real nice. It drives excellent, it's going to make a great daily driver. My brother is already trying to trade the Nissan back for it. Don't think so. :D

I don't think I'd drive 18 hours/798 miles for ANY Honda, let alone one that needs a motor.Whatever works for you though...

Well, I guess I didn't mention the car was in Savannah and my whole family went down there and spent the day down there, went to the beach, Tybee Island and what not.. I'll always bleed Ford blue, but I'm a car guy, I like ALL cars. Already found an awesome forum that's overall about the same as this one just for the 3rd gen Accords as well. Think it's the only Honda forum I've seen where they laugh at ricers as much as we do.

I guess it's just a good thing I'M the only one that has to be happy with the car, and I'll say I am very happy with it. :yup: It'll be my daily driver for quite some time starting some time in the next couple of months.

Yea, I've been reading up on all that, but I'm not really interested in it. I just bought this car to be a cheap daily driver with good gas mileage. I've already got a perfectly good low mileage A20A3 that will bolt right in, so it'll get the job done. Besides, just as easily, you can throw a turbo on a totally stock A20A3 and be in the mid 13's. With a little work, you can get it into the 12's. I can't see why I need a Honduh that goes that fast. I've got better cars for that.

Why does this stuff always end up snowballing? :biglaugh: So, I discovered 5th gear is out of the transmission in the car as well. This had me pissed at first, but it looks like it may be a blessing in disguise... I put a feeler out on Craigslist last night looking for a 5 speed for an '86-'89 Accord, not expecting much.

A guy in Gainesville, GA calls me up this morning. He has an '86 Accord DX. Just had the 5 speed transmission rebuilt 3,000 miles ago, new clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing and had the flywheel resurfaced. Has receipts for everything. Then the oil pump seized up and the engine spun a bearing. He said he's done with the car and just wants to get it out of his way. He was asking $400 for it. I've got him talked down to $250 with him keeping the "rims" and stereo out of it, both of which I could care less about.

The body looks to be in nice shape, it's black with tan interior, 4 door. I'm going to get it, piece the engine back together with the overheated engine in the '88 hatchback (the '88 engine just needs a head, the head on the '86 is fine, just the bottom end is screwed), put the automatic trans out of the '89 parts car in it, and turn around and stick it back on Craigslist for like $1,000-$1,200 OBO or something which is what good running, similar cosmetic condition ones are going for around here.

Then I have the excellent running engine out of the '89 parts car, along with the newly rebuilt 5 speed and new clutch and everything out of the '86 to toss together and throw in the '88 hatch. Then even if I can just get $800 out of the '86, that will pay for the whole damn shebang, so it'll be like I have nothing in this '88 Hatch at all except a few days worth of work on both cars, and it will be in perfect running condition with new clutch and everything. Plus I still have what's left of the '89 parts car to scrap for a few extra bucks. Hell, I could end up making money on this whole damn deal and still have the '88 Hatchback to boot.

I could come out smelling like roses if I play my cards right. :yup:

Yea, it wasn't long after I sold the first one before I started regretting it. They are excellent daily drivers. I'll probably hold onto this '88 long after I get my next Maverick together and start driving it everyday. I really don't expect gas prices to stay down forever. Plus it's a hatchback, which I really like. You can find like 50 4 door Accords for sale for every one hatchback.

Kind of late for that, considering the car is sitting in my driveway.

Well, for starters I'll spend my hard earned money how ever I want. I have been saving money for the Maverick since November of 2006. This hardly put a dent in what I have saved up. Plus, if this deal with the '86 works out, I may recoup that money and then some.

Here is a pic of the '86, by the way:

I can fix the engine problems for the price of a head gasket, and swap the auto trans in from my '89 parts car. I don't think I'll have much problem recouping my $250 investment in that car with it up and running nice with an auto trans in it. I would be ecstatic to get $800 out of the car when said and done, that would mean that I made a PROFIT on this whole deal, and be like I got the '88 for free! Even if I could just get like 500 out of it, that would still mean I only have like 250 bucks in the '88 hatch that I originally paid 500 for, and I'll have a new trans and clutch and everything to go in it. I don't see how I can go wrong.
