I recently purchased a 71 maverick basket case. I have a 1978 ford 351 m that on the bottle has around 700 hp. I want to put this motor in that car with a ford toploader 4 speed. Does anyone know if this will work? any HELP? thanks flathead
i like 700 horse , but not liking M, all i can say is custom headers... whats up with the basket case thing
Yes, it will work, get ready for some major custom work. That kind of hp, I would say run a tube front end tied to rear, roll cage, mustang 2 front end, have to do the custom header or matching up with guess work on ready made. (depends on ho you do your front end and the room you have) All work will be custom on this and sounds like a neat project! People need to see what the "boat anchors" can do! With that m engine, do you know about Tim Meyers Inc? Great place for pistons and parts, Tim has a bunch of knowledge and can bring the horsepower out of the 351m and 400! Good luck and keep us posted
Are you asking if the Maverick bellhousing will mate a Toploader 4 and 351m? I don't see your question I guess. If you want a Toploader behind a 351m, you need an SBF (long nose/short tail) Toploader bolted to a 429 Toploader bellhousing, or 429/460 aftermarket bell like Lakewood. The problem is, that since the 351m uses SBF style flywheel, clutch, starter, and tranny... how would a 429/460 bell react in combo with those parts. I don't know the answer to this, as the 351m was never available with a Toploader 4 in a car setting. The truck stuff is different... It would be an interesting project anyway. Lots of making stuff and total ground up building of the car, along with figuring out how to mate stuff that was never intended to mate. Good luck Keep us posted. Dave
