I have a 300 six in my 74 mav. I don`t know much about trannys but have been leaning toward a 3-speed auto with auto overdrive. I have seen shifters in some cars that have 1\2 on first knotch, 3 on the second and (O) for overdrive on the third. Is this a manual overdrive? If so, would that be easier for me and what would I want to get it out of?
    Thanks, Steve
( still looking for a 3:55 rear end)

if you want a 3 speed auto with o/d have you considered the mustang aod, or the r470w's from the 3.8/4.6's?? Not sure about fitment issues though

I`ll look into that Jeremy. I have been told that one from a lincoln or thunderbird would fit. I don`t have much transmission experience

Do you really mean you have a 300 straight-six in your Maverick?

I would like to see pictures under your hood if you have any.

(When I bought one of my '72 Grabbers, the 302 had been removed, and the guy had modified the radiator support for installing a 300 six, but never completed the project).

    Just curious,

    Doug

Yeah, I would love to see the 300 in there. Just curious as to how it fit, and what you had to do. Thanks.

    300 stright-6 in 74 mav

Putting a 300 in a mav is something that I had never seen done and after I was told by a few people that I COULDN`T DO IT, I decided to do.
I had to modify the oil pan to put the deepest part in the center and make a different oil pick-up tube. Moved the radiator forward about 1 and 1\2 inches. I used the 300 motor mounts and had to drill new holes in the mount brackets that attatch to the frame. I also had to lower them while still keeping it high enough so that the crank pully would set about 3\4 inch off the frame. I put in 302 coil springs to help support the front end and had to lower the upper shock mounts so that the carbuator would clear the shock. (do to the offenhuser intake and 4-barrel carb). The radiator hoses was a real pain also. The engine has been bored 40 over and a oversize cam also. The carb set about 1\2 from the hood so I used a himi hood scoop, (to get one wide enough and to be centered) and that gave me enough room for a breather.I have also put front and back seats in out of a 1997 saturn and doing the rest of the interior in naugaleather (a high quality vinyl). Don`t really want to send pics until I pull the engine and redo under the hood. My son drove the car for about 1 and 1\2 years and didn`t keep it clean under the hood. If I put out pics now keep that in mind.

Sweet, thanks for the info, Steve. Any luck on finding that rear bumper?

    bumper

Not yet Corbin. Still looking. I going to Craigs next sunday to pick up a rear spolier but I really need to get a rear bumper to match up to it and the quater panel extentions. My 74 bumper jsut ain`t gonna get it. Still can`t get Ksstalkers to get back to me. Guess he decided to rip me off.

Maybe keep an ear open for a bumper. Thats about all I need to make everything fall together. I was really hopeing for the one from Ksstalkers. He even sent me a picture and talked serious.
I`d like one in good shape and hasn`t been painted though.
    Thanks,

Here is a link to an old topic of a 300 six powered Mav drag car. Pretty awesome!

    Spoiler on 75 Grabber

I am having my 75 Grabber completely restored for my 16 year old grand daughter. I got a spoiler from ebay and found out the fender extensions did not fit for the 75. With some ingenuity and some bondo the spoiler extensions and non-spoiler extensions were measured, cut and fit together. The results are great. I could use my 75 bumper and it looks like the parts were factory made.
