It's been a while since I've had a chance to work on the maverick, but this winter my 94 F-150 was hit by a snow plow. This led me to wonder if the 5.0L out of my F-150 would be a good match for the mav. The 302 had thrown a rod in the mav so this might be a good time to switch to fuel injection. Has anyone done this swap and does anyone know what would be involved to swap the engine? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jonathan
I'm pretty sure that the truck and car 5.0 is the same, so it has been done and seems to be easy. You can do the search for 5.0 swap. The hardest part is the wiring. I'm sure some one will jump in and verify or not on this comment.
The truck upper intake is probably too tall to fit in a Mav. The lower intake on trucks is actually a better part than the HO lower. There are aftermarket uppers that fit the truck lower, because alot of 5.0 guys used to seek out the truck lower for their cars. Some aftermarket 5.0 intakes, Holley comes to mind, are just truck lowers with proprietary uppers. Anyway, it should work fine except for the upper intake, and therefore TB. Is 94 SD or MAF? MAF is going to be the way to go. SD doesn't take kindly to changes of any kind. 94 might even have a roller cam. My 90 had a roller block, but the cam was flat hydraulic. The heads leave alot to be disired too. 94 probably still used the E7s.
If I go with an aftermarket hood of some kind, will I be able to use the truck upper intake? I need to replace the hood anyway. Thanks for the reply, Jonathan
If you switch to a cowl induction hood it will give you more clearance. If I remember correctly, I think you'll need to move the battery box to the trunk because you'll need the extra space. Many members on here have done the fuel injection swap......here's a link to the search I did on the subject. Good Luck!! Fuel Injection - http://mmb.maverick.to/search.php?searchid=501580
