Just thought I'd let you guys/gals know. Prothane make a polyurethane tranny mount for the 65-73 mustangs. This mount will fit our cars, I put one on my car last night and it fits great!! At $25 from summit, I think it's hard to go wrong!!
I guess I can see getting one for racing. I have never had one fail on me and for daily driving wont the factory one cause less vibration to the body?
I got mine for safety sake. Had someone loose a driveshaft and it ripped the tranny mount in half and ended up cracking his bellhousing and tranny case. These have lapped over metal on the inside so the mount can't be ripped apart.
The fellow who did all my chassis work on my car suggested the polyuro. I am running plates. They(plates) "will" allow alot more drivetrain travel than running motor mounts. He said that the polyuro would "limit" that travel, but would not restrict it. I beleive you want a travel or "give" in your driveline to prevent breakage. That is the same tranny mount they run in their 4.20 outlaw 10.5 car. I agree with Stephen, its good and cheap insurance.
Yes they are, but its only 1/4 maybe 3/16 inch aluminum. it does have alot of flex front to back. If you just set the motor in there without the tranny and stuff, bolt the plates down, you can actually push the motor front to back about a inch or so. Now, you CANNOT move it side to side. The plates in that direction are about 1 foot thick. My nephews big block chassis car uses the same size plates(thickness).
