o.k forumers.....I'd like to know whether or not Im gonna need to change my current 6 popper front coil springs over to v8 set of springs before i plan to install my 351W motor? I had somebody tell me i will have to change springs to heavier v8 size. I have ALSO been told by somebody else that I DONT need to change the springs. WHAT'S THE WHOLE TRUTH AND NUTTIN BUT THE TRUTH? p.s and what about upgrading my front shocks too?

I have been using my stock 250 springs with my 351w for over 10 years...and have never had a problem of any kind with them!

personally i think v8 springs have too much lift in the front even with the 351

it will sit just a little lower with the six cyl springs then it did with the six cyl. motor in it. most people like the lower look.

If you're wanting a stiffer ride, then I would upgrade to V-8 springs. You can cut the coils to get the ride height you like. You can also use a stiffer Mustang spring. I'm using '65-'66 620lb springs on the front of my '73 in the pic below.

spr_at_work_original.jpg I have 6 cyl springs in my Sprint with a 351.I did install V-8 springs when I re built the front suspension.I didnt like the front ride height with em.(too nose high in front) so I put the 6 cyl springs back in.Drove the car all over creation this summer and cant complain at all about the springs.Workes well with them.Pic below is with V-8 springs.

well i like the way my car rides and I like the way it sits in the front just as it is....i dont really want the front lower but if it turns out a "LITTLE" lower then i guess i can live with that. I definitely dont want it any higher than it is (view my photos).

Your wheel offset will affect ride height, too. Wheels that stick outward farther will put more leverage on the coil spring and make it sit lower. You don't know how it will sit until you try it.

    Springs

    Hi All,

I still have an I-6 250 in my Maverick. It is my understanding that these springs are the same as the V-8 springs. The smaller displacement six's are said to have had different springs that are rather weaker. If you must, Vanishing Point Racing of Telford, PA stocks a wide variety of coil springs in different diameters and a variety of different spring rates. They will finish these springs to whatever height you specify.

    Regards,

    David
