Are all Mav V8 bars 1" ? And I guess they will fix a I6 Mav. Also, what are the V8 belly bars used for? Do they stiffen the frames for a I6?

mine was 7/8s on a factory 73 grabber as for the belly bars I dunno it would stiffen the frame but damnedifIknow if it'll fit with the I-6 in there

no they are not 1" at all never came that way from the factory either...

as for fitting a i6? anything bigger then a 7/8 on a i6. it will hit the oil pan and even then the 7/8 is very very close. i know i have one.

stiffening frame if anything it puts more stress on the swaybar mounts.... they will rip them right off. you should weld some extra tack on them if your gonna put anything bigger then stock on it.

unless 7/8 was an options i have never seen one on a factory car. they are smaller then 7/8 from what i have seen.

7/8" was a factory option. Most are 3/4", regardless of whether or not it's a I-6 or V-8 car...

There is one listed on Ebay, decribed as V8 HD bar for $25.00 plus $20.00 shipping. Good price? Should I by it for my 1974 Grabber 250 I6 C4? Or is there a better option?

if he is saying it is an 1" bar, it's not a factory bar... and if it is a aftermarket 1" incher it is not going to fit your i6 anyways.

and as TL said, the 7/8 it was an option form the factory... but like he said v8 or i6 there is no differance. so the bar your buying may be no differant then what you already have. so ask the guy what you buying before end up buying and posting it back up on ebay... cuz i have a stock "v8" on that i'd sell you :biglaugh:

The V8 belly bar will bolt right on any Maverick, regardless of year or engine/transmission. It stiffens up the front end. I can not see any reason to use one on a 6 cylinder car unless your 6 cylinder is highly modifed. T.L. and Derek are right about the front sway bar, no diffrence between 6 cylinder and V8 sway bars.

Thanks to all. Good info. I am going to build my 250 with offy 3 - 1 webers, 9 to 10 compression, 270 cam and c4. I guess I'll wait on the final build to figure my suspension.

My factory front bar was 3/4 inch and it had the heavy duty suspension option. My non heavy duty car has a 11/16 inch front bar. I installed the addco 7/8 inch bar on the front and the 3/4 inch one on the rear. MONEY WELL SPENT! The six cars might only be 5/8 inch??

No, the 6-cyl AND the V-8 cars came standard with a 3/4" front bar. A 7/8"
front bar was optional. Not 5/8" and not 11/16"...

I've never heard of that, where did you get that part number? I know the "1-inch" Granada bar that people are always asking about, actually measures 15/16". Does a 16th of an inch really make any difference? I can see how 1/8th of a inch would.

My front bar measures 7/8", and it's a factory bar...

I'll have to bust out the calipers and measure the bars on all 8 of my Mavericks. I have always just assumed they were all 3/4.

So perhaps it was the later models that got the 7/8" option (?). I got mine off a '75 or '76 Maverick. Cost me a whole 10 bucks. I just got new polyurethane bushings for it...
