I would agree with Krazy Comet on this. You should be able to check the VIN there pretty quickly. My 71 GT is marked there as well. - Matt
Ok the number on top of the block is not the same as the first two and last six of the VIN. 2K199849 Casting number on the block indicates that it's a '71. D1ZM-60T5-AA RMiller is right, after 47 yrs of potential molestation, who knows what has been done to that car.
The partial VIN was Federal reg beginning Jan 1 1968.. The first number being 2 means it went into a 1972, casting numbers often continued into following year(s). The First '72 were assembled approx Aug/Sept '71. The casting date close to block number(that's 6015) will tell the day it was cast & stamp on lip by timing cover, day of engine assembly. I have a 289 here that was cast March 1 '68 & assembled March 2.
Mr Murdoch - are you planning on doing restoration or body work to the car? If so take off the drivers side fender and check the VIN there. It is stamped into the top of the inner fender. It should match the VIN on the dash and door jam sticker. If it matches your engine the car is actually a 1972 that had a title swap (worst possible case) - if it matches the dash it just means the engine was swapped at some point, along with the 5 lug parts.
Yes sir my plan is to do a restoration job on it. Will do on the fender. I'll probably pull it off this weekend and see what it tells me. Thanks!!
