I'm looking for a v8 302 in any condition as long as it's whole. I would like for it to come with a 4bbl carburetor or atleast the manifold for one. As I said I am looking for any condition, I want one to rebuild myself.
I know it's a long shot, I'm also trying junk yards and stuff. Just seeing if any one might have an old one they stripped out and are willing to sell it. If it makes a difference I have a 1970 Maverick.
i have one in a 76 maverick that im thinking of swaping with efi. it's a 4 barrel with weilend intake and c-4 trans. their are a couple of "issues" with the motor. but if interested let me know.
Wish you were closer... I have a roller block, D0 351w heads, aluminum intake... Would all need going through. Even got a running Holley...
check the local engine rebuilder blocks are usually 50-100 bucks cleaned machine work can run a few hundred bucks cranks about the same price make sure you get the correct imbalance (28.2 or 50oz) and matching rods and pistons balancer and flywheel (thanks ford) heads.. sky is the limit how much money do you have and don't count out aftermarket iron heads vrs stock ones price for price. be surprised it might be cheaper or the same price tin and front covers are specific to chassis design you buy a late model 302/351 it will have the wrong oil pan for early chassis cars like ours valve covers are what fits the valve train front covers are for where the dipstick and fuel pump are located are dependant on if you are running a mechanical fuel pump or a electric pump. as for a 4 bbl intake and carb since this will be your first engine I would scour the local engine builders/wrecking yards/hi pro shops might come across a deal swap meets and forums like this are also good places to look I would go a performer type intake (edelbrock/holley/offenhauser/etc) and a 600cfm vacuum secondary carb a model 1850 (4150 version preferred over a 4160 econo carb if you have a 4160 it's a easy conversion) then your next engine you can do something wilder.. work up to a faster car.. walking from a 15second stocker with a intake and headers to a 12 second terror like mine requires a little getting used to so don't expect to go fast out of the box.. learn to drive don't let the car drive you
adapter the other day i saw an adapter to install a 4bbl carb on a 2bbl intake, it looked like it could get the job done without the need to change the intake manifold, is this true? are there any consecuences? is this the easy way to have a 4bbl carb on our cars? by the way the engine is not a 302 it's a 289
the carb adaptor is not a good way to go. its very restrictive and will most likely have less power than the 4bbl did.
The carb adapter probably cost as much as a decent used intake. Out here performers go for twenty bucks. Or you can get an intake from an 80 mustangs. They seem to be plentifull around here also, as most guys go for the EFI stuff.
