The Summit is 70 miles from Newcastle, the rest area is right on the highway, it's four lane interstate 80 the whole way over the hill (7,200') Donner is the home of the infamous "Donner Party" of 150 years ago!

The views are just great, you will like it, the drive is a very easy one,you won't have any problems at all.:drive:

    I'm in

Just made my hotel reservations for 8-10th. Bringing the beater 72 Grabber. A real P.O.S but lots of fun to drive. Spent today doing a Thrash-Ex on the front end. Removed the power steering and replaced it with one of those power steering control valve to manual pieces. Put in the Progressive rate springs, new spring perches and grease the upper control arm bushings. No more squeaks!!!! Okay, there are still a few...:slap:

Replacing the front fenders and hood with some freshly painted pieces to try out a different color combination. Replacing the windshield Tuesday, having the speedo calibrated and mounting new seats as well.

Oh, yeah.. The girl friend type person wants me to wire up a stereo.. Who needs a stereo when you are driving a V8 Maverick?

    See you alL there.

BTW do we have a count yet?

I agree about a stereo. Listening to that dual exhaust is music to my ears too. We don't need no stinkin stereo!! :29: Adds excess weight too :D

I got a major problem now. I decided to yank the Summit starter tonight and go back to the original set up. The original starter just grinds now when I turn it over. I know it is set in there correctly. I am wondering if my motor is frozen now for some reason. It shouldn't be. I was able to move the crank a few weeks ago to turn the fly wheel to tighten up my convertor bolts. I am DOOMED!!! I hope I can figure this out to make the trip. If it isn't one thing it is another. :slap:

if it is just grinding, the starter isnt kicking the gear out all of the way and engaging it. you just need to replace the starter. if your not positive about the motor being frozen, take a deep socket and wrench to the big bolt of your harmonic balancer and hand crank it.

when i put my tranny back in last time it wouldn't turn over. i loosened the starter and put a shim in the bottom bolt and it started right up. i think the starter was boundup. good luck.:)

My co-worker said the samething about putting a shim in. I am going to mess around with it more this evening. If I can't get this pig running by Thursday afternoon I will just drive up in my truck and hang out with everyone & :drink: the free beers from the casino.

GOOD NEWS, I got the pig to turn over. It was the battery all along DOH! :slap: I am in the process of swapping out my carb to my old Edelbrock 600cfm because it is dialed in for the car and I don't have time to dial in my 650 Holley right now. I just want the thing to run :D . Good thing I have tomorrow off to finish up on this thing. I have run into snag after snag with this car lately. I bought new Weld Wheels a week or so ago and went to get them balanced yesterday and 3 out of 4 were bent. Summit sent me out new ones to replace them but one of the replacement wheels was bent more than one of the originals. So we will see how it rides on the trip. So I hope to be in Newcastle on Friday around 11:30ish.
