I think I agree with Dennis. I can't get that kind of mileage with a totally stock, perfectly tuned 200 with 30,000 original miles and a rebuilt 1v Carter RBS carb with brand new tires and absolutely no extra weight in the car. I certainly don't see it being possible with a weighed down car and a 2v carb.

With at Motorcraft 2150 I think it would do better. Those Carter 1 BBLS are not very good. Did that swap on my CJ5 and it gets 17MPG !

Some of these old threads are hilarious, a Maverick that got 37.5 MPG should be in the Smithsonian...

Back in '60 Ford advertised the new Falcon with 144 could get up to 30 MPG, few actually produced that number.

My 69 Camaro had a mileage log the guy kept. The car got 17 mpg many times. I think 18 a few times. The car had a 327 with a 2 barrel listed at 210HP , a 4 speed and a 3.08 rear end. The car weighs about 3350. It is hard for me to imagine , a Maverick with a 302 , and a 2.79 or 3.00 gear would not do at least that good at around 2700 pounds. Now I think a lot of those 302s are pretty gutless from the factory. Bumping compression to 9.5 or so should help. I think if you built a 300 hp 302 it would do better than a 150hp 302. Maybe the smog setup robbed it. They are light and aerodynamic, you would think there would be some potential for better mileage. Manual trans would help too, no doubt.
