I want to put 15 inch wheels on my 70 Mav. What widths - backspacing and tire sizes work with out major modification?
I was thinking of Cragar S/S for the old school look.

Do you have 5-lugs on the 1970?

Yes, I have not pulled the hub caps yet, I just bought it. I have a 9inch rear end and disc brakes out of a 74 Mav (waiting patiently on the shelf!) that I plan to install, we will have 5 lugs!
I plan for the 70 to be a hot street car, my 75 seems to have a future on the drag strip, my wife wants to race (what a gal!) So for the 70 we do not want to cut and hack to get the meats stuffed in, I dont mind rolling the inner fender lip though!
    Thanks,
    Dave

On the front, you have a variety of choices from skinny to about 7" wide.
Backspace depends on width that you settle on.
Generally max BS is 4.5", stock with 6" rims is 3.5".
Personally, I think the front looks better with the wheels set out wider slightly.

    Now the problem:
You need to know the width of the 9" compared to what's in there.
Unless you had the 9" custom made, it will be wider than your stock rear. That means that you are in gray area when it comes to BS on the rear wheels. What works on a stock Mav will need more BS on your 9".
Generally the rear can take 7"-8" wide 15" rims.
BS can go in as far as 4.5" for some, while others have only been able to use 4.25", due to production variation. Stock, again is 6" wide with 3.5" BS.
There are alot of threads on the subject, so a search will tell you far more than I can...

    Hi DGerhardt,

I put 15 x 7 Cragar S/S's on my '73 Maverick. From Summit Racing, they cost about $120 each. If I remember correctly, they are a 4 1/8" backspace. They were the standard offset offered through Summit.

If you reply with an email address, I can send you a couple of photos so you can see how these wheels might look on your car.

    Regards,
    BaldEagleMav

    i have 14x7 on the front 3.75 back spacing with 215 70 14 tires.. personally i think 225 60 14 would be better for a 14x7 rim

ont he back i will be putting 15x8 with 235 60 15 tires.. and the rims i have are 3.75 back spacing

A 7" rim is not too wide for a 215. I have 14x7's in front with 215/60's and they look great on there. I just bought 15x7's, and will likely go with a 215 on those too.
