For my 73 Maverick with original 302?Got totally sick and tired of points then tried to install the Accel 2020 points eliminator kit and it was a nightmare so I have to head to the junkyard. Is there some kind of "brain"that goes with these compatible ignitions?I remember a mechanic told me there was such a thing, its a square box with a wire connection.Any help would be much appreciated.

Your refering to the Ford Duraspark ignition. I believe 75-76 is when they started. The box is usually mounted on the drivers side in front of the shock tower.

Thanks for the feedback boys.I was just looking at the Pertronix kit and it looks good but I'm gonna shoot for a electronic distributor 1st.So can I just pull any electronic distributor from a 302 with the ignition module box and drop it in?Can I grab one out of a different sized engine or does it have to be a 302?I'm guessing I can't mix and match different colored boxes and distributors right?

Get the distributor from a 302. The boxes are identified by the color of the grommet where the wires enter the box. From what I have seen blue is the most common.

When I went to an electronic distributor on my 69 Fairlane I used one from a 74 Mustang with a 302. The reason is that externally it looks like an old points style distributor. The only giveaway on the car was the box on the inner fender panel.
