    Station wagon wheels

The wider wagon wheels only came in a 5 bolt pattern. You might find some wide plain wheels on a late 70s T-Bird or Cougar, (these cars got HUGE then). But again, these were 5 bolt wheels.

    Is your car 6 cylinder/ 4 bolts?

Plain steel wheels at a salvage yard shouldn't be more than $10 or $15 each, and they usual don't care that you are buying a rim that is 5 inches or 7 inches wide, still the same price.

245 tires fit fine on these cars as long as you don't have some strange wheel that places the tire far inboard. I am running 265-50-15s on my current Comet and if I had wheels that had the right offset, I know 275s would fit, maybe 285s because I trimmed the fender lip. Currently it is very close to the tub over the spring when driving up a sloped driveway. Plenty of room outboard.

    Another thought ...

I am now seeing that your car is in fact a six.

Mustangs up to 1970 that came with a six also had four bolt wheels, and I would bet that they are wider.

They are too short for the car, and also too wide for a 4-1/2" rim. The sidewalls are gonna be majorly (I made that word up) tucked-in. It is recommended for a 5-1/2" to 7-1/2" rim...

4 1/2" wide rims and WIDE tires just aren't made for each other.

Yes, but 195 is already "pushing it". Stick with that or get wider wheels. I know you can find some cheap at the junk yard...

i know you guys dont wanna hear it but heres some of my options.
    1. buy nice wheels and tires together
    2. buy same size tire
    3. buy some cheap steel stocker style 14x6 rims (cheap) and tires
    4. swap over to 5 lug and pay for that, new rims, and tires

which do you think would be the best option. (remember price is the biggest factor) i think #3 is the best option...

If you still have the 4-lugs......then finding #3 will be REAL tough.

I would go with the 5-lugs. Lots of options after that.
