I was wondering if a 200 head & intake will bolt to a 170 and what would be the benfits to such a thing. Allso if it can what would be the best year of head.
    Thank ya guys:tiphat:

it'll bolt on. depending on year it might have larger valves but it might also have larger combustion chambers and make your compression lower. the post'70 heads are the best cause the intake log and carb mount is bigger

Go to this web site ordsix.com. sorry I don't know how to do links!!!

It will give you a very good overview of the various types of thing that can be done to the I6. Good tech info, how to tell what you have, what things interchange etc.

Great site for I6 fords, thus the name.

Lou, to do links type http:// then fordsix.com all one word, make use to put a space after the address. The software will make it a clickable link like this. http://fordsix.com

The head should work on a 170. I had a 200 with a 170 head, and it made it a lot stronger. Better compression, I would think. I think if you take .030 off the head, it should restore some of the compression. Good luck.

classic inlines has new thinner head gaskets that should be hitting the market soon which will also work to bump compression

all the aftermarket heas gaskets out now are actually thicker then stock causing a loss of compression

FYI: All 144,170, 200 and 250 heads have the same bolt patterns, water jacket and oil passage configurations. However, there are differences as previously stated in chamber size. There will be overlap using a 200 head on a 170 block as the chamber diameter is larger. 170 heads are getting scarce now from what I have seen, partly due to them being melted down. Unless you have had the block recently rebuilt, you may want to do the 200 or 250 swap if you want a six cylinder.
