Hi guys, I am a new Maverick owner and I am currently swapping the Straight 6 for a 302. I was wondering if a 1993 Mustang 302 and tranny can fit and run well in the 1970 Maverick Grabber. I also can get a late 80s 302, but it's tranny needs some work.
Welcome to the madness!!! Yes it will fit but,you will need V-8 frame stands for the mounts and depending on the trans you use you may need a different trans crossmember and drive shaft yoke, among other things. If you do a search you will find the answers to your questions.Good luck!!!
If it's an AOD trans it will need a new crossmember, but there available. The engine is a slide in deal if you get maverick mounts. And WELCOME!
Thanks guys! Yeah, I tried searching and found I could use the late 80s 302 no problem. But it was concerning when I couldn't find anything on the '93. Will the late 80's 302 require the same tranny mods? If so, I will probably use the '93 302.
Basically they'll both fit the same way. If you are using a c4 tranny it'll fit right in. An AOD takes the different tranny mount.
Remember, he asked if it would fit, and run in a Mav. Is the 93 engine electronic fuel injected? Not exactly "drop in and go" unless switched over to carb
dont forget about the oil pan needs changed to a ft sump and the oil screen is different.and you will have a hole in side or block from the dipstick tube.it will leak if you dont plug it! and if you use the ft brackets there is no place for a dipstick in the ft cover or a fuel pump.and of course them cheesy factory headers wont work either
