I am in the process of building a 70 Maverick street rod with a 650 horse 350 Chevy engine. Am calling it a Chevrick. Am still looking for body parts! I still need a hood, grill and some interior parts. Will post picture of the Chevrick soon. All of the body parts and interior are original. I have a few body parts for sale, wing windows and marker lights.
Cool...post pics when you get them. I like different stuff, but you may not get a real warm reception on this board! A lot of the folks on here bleed Ford Blue, and they feel it's sacriligeous to put a bow-tie in or on anything. Like I said, I like different stuff, and there is always someone asking around on here about this very swap, so maybe there will be room for everyone. Good luck with the project! And keep us updated! P.S....I have a Mav with a 468 BBC in it! Well, right now it's in the corner of my shop awaiting the completion of the Mav's new chassis, but hopefully, I will get my act together and get my rear in gear and git 'r done! Later,
I charged a local guy around here a grill at double the cost of what I normally sell them for because he had a "c" word for a motor. I didnt want to sell it to him at all. I just think its sacrilegious. Hey Stefan, we need a thumbs down icon.
I could understand if it were a street rod with limited powertrain options, but since Ford engines are available and bolt right in, I have a hard time appreciating a Chevy engine in a Maverick. Not trying to bad-mouth anyone, just my opinion...
Seems like an aweful lot of work. Wider engine, goofy mounts, rear sump pan, rear distributor... and so on. Did you keep the shock towers? Did you get the engine to set back far enough? I have seen this done, but don't remember how it looked. Dave
I remember a magazine build up many years ago, I believe it was L'il John Buttera's son who built a Maverick with a narrowed rear end and a SBC in it.
Welcome to the board, 70Grabberman. While I detest your power train combo in a Maverick (or any Ford product for that matter), it is your car and you can do what you want. Once upon a time, not too long ago, in the land of Hot Rodville, the SBC engine was much cheaper to build than the Ford small blocks. But, the land was overrun with the urchins of the Fox body and lo, the price to build a small block Ford fell down and go boom. Now, in the land of Hot Rodville, there is no cost or parts availability advantage to the dreaded SBC. The Ford, and yea, the Maverick, are happy in Hot Rodville.bouncy:
Thanks all for the input!!! Been building Chevy's all my life! Found a 70 Mav in a yard in good shape and looked like it needed some love and attention!!! Love to build hot cars!!! Been building racing motors for about 20 years. Kept the body and chassis all original was not hard to build a new oil pan to work with the steering. Tied the front shock towers together, moved the motor 4" ahead using the original mounts. Cost me half the money to build more horse power that will hold up under pressure. Besides- all your presents come with a bowtie!! Just trying to put the heartbeat into the rock.
