I heard that the 1970 Maverick gastanks are different than the other years . . . they bolt on versus being strapped on . . . I think that I heard that they were like the Ford Falcon? Does anyone know anything about this? What other gastanks can be interchanged?
They drop in from the trunk like a Mustang. 71 and up had the "traditional" style of tank, held in by 2 straps underneath.
Even though they mount up differently, are they interchangeable? I suspect not, but I am not sure. Which tanks are interchangeable?
david, i just got a ford interchange book off of ebay. 1963-1974. it lists 2 gas tanks for the 70 maverick. part #D0DZ9002A, 16 gallons w/o evaporative emission and D0DZ9002D, 14 gallons with evaporative emission . sorry, they don,t list as interchanging with any other model or year to 74
No, they don't interchange with anything else. The whole trunk floor is different from 71-up, it would be a difficult conversion. I am thinking about switching to a fuel cell, my 1970 tank is pretty badly rusted and I need to do something soon.
1970 Gastanks I am not sure I understand this right and i hope that I do because it will make my life much easier. I have a 69.5 Mav and i have a leaky tank. So if I am reading this thread correctly I could go and get a replacement tank for a Mustang or a Falcon and it will bolt right in? If this is true what years will work? The floor of my trunk is really the top of the gas tank if that helps. This would be really cool if i could just change with a Mustang cause I not only need a new tank but a new sending unit as well.
If you can not find one you can drop the tank out, fiberglass it, then take to a radiator shop and have them boil it out and coat it. That works great. Alone with my mavericks I have a 60 fairlane 500, (hard to find tanks for) and I had to do that to it, and the tank "does not leak anymore." FUEL FOR THOUGHT
i had a 69 falcon that dropped in from the top, however the interchange manual says that the numbers don't match up with any other model or year. you might make sure by taking the measurements with you when you find one. good luck
