8" or 9"

    57 Fairlanes did not have an 8.8 stock. They weren't even out then. They came out in 1986. 57 Fords had a 9". I doubt 9" gears will fit an 8.8.

    I'm sorry Mr. Graham I met to say that it was the 8.75"(8 3/4") not the 8.8 intergal. The nine inch rear end and assembly was not used in Ford cars until 1961 and then only in the HiPo cars. The nine inch became standard in the fullsize Ford cars in 1962. 1957 to 1961 used a 8 3/4" ring and pinion, however the 57 and up housing would accept the nine inch carrier. The 9 inch was used in Ford Trucks from 1959 and up.

    Did the smaller geared carriers require and shop worh to accept the 9" gears?

    Not the 8.75" it should bolt right in the 9" housing.
