The place where I buy my parts has a rebuilt alternator book that goes back to 1972. I'm wondering if a 1 pulley 55 amp alt. for a 72 will fit my 70 (38 amp single pulley came stock)? In particular, are the plugs that hook up on the back exactly the same? Thanks.

I've never verified it, but I read somewhere that they are the same alternator - Ford just installed a slightly smaller diameter pulley so that the alternator spins faster and produces a higher output.

tom, my book says that the 55 amp alternator was used on the 70-74 maverick too. my book only goes up to 74. it's listed as part #D0AZ10346F motorcraft. hope this helps. p.s. it's also used on a lot of other models too.:)
