Hey everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster. I figured I'd let everyone know that a 74 Comet is being saved frome the scrap yard! 1974 Mercury Comet 2dr 250ci automatic w/ factory A/C So I'm not sure what the story behind "Betsy Blue" is but I couldn't say no.... for 2 reasons: the owners I got her from wanted to see her fixed up, and I needed a "practice" car to prepare for my dream car restored. Truth is right now it doesn't seem worth it at times but the reality is I'm coming to love it and the process of learning about it. Everyone in this forum has helped me gather some knowledge and history behind the Mavericks and Comets, and in deciding what I want to do with mine. I've been video documenting almost everything I have done but still haven't seen many repair videos on these cars outside of what I've had to try to figure out for myself. Luckily they are very similar to the early mustangs so I can use reference material to help me out but am still at a loss for some of the minor touches. I finally decided to create an account because while searching the forums I thought to myself "some of these people might like to see mine". So here I am! You should find a good one and use that one for parts. It's too far gone. Edit: After looking at some of your videos, there may be hope for it yet...
Yeah I definitely could have found a better one, but seeing how much the last owner loved it, I couldn't resist taking it on. I come from an auto body and paint background so I knew It was going to be a challenge, just not this much of one. But hey, we get to save another one!

Welcome. I've seen bad roofs before but not one that bad. Talk about swiss cheese! Hope you're good at fab work and using an English wheel. I'd be curious to know what the rest of the metal is like after blasting. I applaud you for saving this one.
Thankyou Hotrock! Glad to be here. Yeah looking back now "insane" comes to mind. Constable, unfortunately blasting it wasn't in my budget. I was lucky enough to find a donor for the roof in a junkyard near me. I couldn't save the floor pans at all so I opted to put some early mustang ones in. The rest of the metal work had to be done from scratch. A lot of wire wheels, cut off disc's, and elbow grease has gone into bringing it back to life. Still more to go though. It's exciting
That's the sane approach, unless car has had another one or two stacked on top, probably 90% of the hulks in junkyard are donor worthy. Probably less than .01% have performed roof grafts. Welcome aboard!!
I watched a couple of your videos. You know your stuff. I liked the process you used in replacing the roof. Some guys would have just used a piece of sheet steel and been done with it but I also saw that you had to replace the windshield support rail. Turned out good. That would have been a deal breaker for me having to do that much fab work. And my welding skills are mediocre even though I have a MIG. I'll be anxious to see the car done and in paint. That much work, you have a lot to be proud of.
