    Thanks

Thanks for your comments. I don't take too many replies serious enough to get into the kind of details I did on AMC cars. Let's just call it a short history lesson for those who are too young to know anything about the accomplishments of a small company that faded away.

Anyhow, there's a guy that runs an AMX at the local track here, and I chatted with him and could not believe how much money he has put into that car. Worst thing is it runs like crap. It's an all out race car that can't race. I was going to give him some advice but he wasn't the listening type.

The last time he was at the track, my 06 Mustang GT was a full second faster than the AMX. Now that I'm building up the Maverick, I'm pretty certain it will clean his clock even if he ever figures out what is wrong with it. When I get the Mav running again I'll post some pics of what was done and how it runs.

Well Looks Like I DID Offend, did not mean to by any means only expressing an opinion, Those designs, probably helped seal AMC's fate, yes I did know Rambler preceded AMC, and I do know they did make some durable engines, I did not know some of their racing heritage. But most of that came in the late 60's and early seventies.
And yes the Big 3 made their turkeys too, but I am not aware of Ford having a majority of their lineup as poorly conceived designs as the "latest model Matador, the Gremlin and Pacer. the rest of their line up was basically Jeep at that point.
Maybe I should have been more specific But I still believe those 3 cars killed AMC.
Anyway I never intended top offend, so please accept my apologies.

    No apology needed

Hey, it's no big deal and you don't need to apologize. I didn't like those cars very much either. But they did have some great cars in the late 60s and 1970. Seems like things started going down hill after that. The designers and engineers that kicked off the birth and new image of AMC probably left in the 70s to go to work for the "Big 3." After all, they created "magic" to turn AMC into a company with a new image. So, may AMC rest in peace and let's press on to things of Maverick/Comet intrest which is why we joined this web site in the first place.

Right now my Maverick is spread all over the place. I pulled the 5.0 engine two weeks ago and took the heads off so I could see what kind of condition the engine was in. The heads looked OK and the pistons are 0.060 over. Next, the oil pan came off and then I got quite upset. The rods were marked as you normally would except they were not numbered 1 to 8. there were two 8s and two 5s. So the short block is going in this week to get checked out, new rods, ballancing and a few other necessary mods. This "turnkey" little hot rod is getting more expensive as I check out what's in it (or not). Well, I do have one item of good news- the old bench seat is gone and the Mav has some great looking performance styled bucket seats. :burnout:

I have thought about something like this for years. Messing with photoshop I came up with these. Both are shortened 4 drs.
I like the flater trunk on them.

I like the Mav the way it is, but I would have loved it if Ford made some Maverick-based Ranchero's.
