We have ran the motor and the headers work great and sound awesome, with the headers the 250 inline 6 sounds like a v8 at idle
this was a...Clifford performance...was told it sounded like a 5.0 at idle. I had to extend the collector about 4" to clear the starter, then sent them to be coated. I also installed a "port divider".
The fitment was great, we didn't use the supplied pipe off the collectors as they would have hit the frame so we just had the exhaust shop bend up new pipe for it
the header came from...Clifford performance. http://www.shop.cliffordperformance.net/68-PORT-DIVIDER-73-1136.htm
funny enough i just bought some of these cheap headers off amazon for 180 bucks and should be installing them this week hopefully. my only problem im facing is the obstruction of my A/C compressor and will probably have to massage the first pipe to make it fit properly. I also bought a new header gasket for it since i was told the old one does not hold up well. Im not too sure what exhaust setup i want as well, still playing with ideas at the moment.
You also might have to change the heater hose nipple to a straight nipple to get the heater hose to clear the exhaust tube. I use a Sanden compressor and re-drilled the two inner holes on the AC/ALT bracket to fit the adapter plate. http://1bad6t.com/Maverick/maverick_57.html
ill probably have to get a compressor like that, for now so i can go to the silver springs car show in FL i added 2 inch spacers between the block and the bracket to move it off the header. it took alot of time getting the car situated and then reinstalling everything 6 different times to make it all work but its finally done for now, just the small problem of not having time to get to an exhaust shop so ill be running open headers to the show
when i first got my car i remember the original exhaust rusted out right at the catalytic converter and the car was pretty loud, but these open headers were waay louder than the open exhaust manifold pipe. drove to and from the show wearing ear plugs and the car really vibrated from the noise. cant wait to put a nice exhaust system on it though!
I've been looking at those I-6 headers on Amazon for my 74 Comet. They're supposed to be a good fit. Are they decent for the money??
I just installed these headers, used the better gasket, no problems, looks and sounds great! I had to have a custom exhaust made. They made a y pipe and output to a single exhaust. It made a difference, sounds better, a little more power, a nice upgrade all around.
