I used "76" Granada spindles, calipers and rotors on my "72" Grabber, no power brakes or steering! don't need it!!! the only power in this car is in the engine! also used a "69" Torino GT 9" rear end, narrowed it to the width of the stock 8" and used the stock 8" Grabber axles! In my garage I have a Lincoln 9" w/disc brakes, also an "N" case which I intend to install down the road! I also have a 9" narrowed to 31" from a "48" Anglia dragstrip car, without carrier and axles of course.
My 69.5 came stock with the tiny 7.5 rear and that promptly went to the scrap pile. My 9 inch rear with factory disc brakes came out of a Granada Ghia and bolted right in.
Granadas never had an 8.8... if it's a plate type rear end (having a cover on the back), it is a 8.5. they're kind of a bastard since nothing interchanges with them. i personally wouldnt pay $50 for one unless you just wanted one to go to 5 lug. Most Granadas/Monarchs were 8 inch, some had the 8.5 bastards, and very few had the 9" like the Versailles but all the 9" were rear disc
same here, but mine was the Monarch Ghia version. mine also had buckets, floor shift auto and a console (and an extra in the trunk ) but was a 250 car with hydro-boost brakes and the rear was a Traction-Lok version with 2.50 gears..... some weird combos for a car
Not all the 9" were disc brakes. I recently purchased a 76 Monarch, 250, auto and 9" with drums. Also found another with a 302, auto and 9" with discs. Fred
Rear disc brakes were only standard on the Lincoln Versailles. Just about any combo can be found on Granada/Monarch. I looked under quite a few in the junkyards and really never found a 9 inch rear, in the wild, under any Granada/Monarch. I bought my own from someone that had it for sale.
The only Granada I seen with a 9" was a 1977 with a factory installed 351w W/ a 2bbl, A/C, and tow package! the 76 Granada I had was 302 3spd stick, and an 8" back in 84 I had a 1975 Monarch Ghia 4 door it had a 302 auto and 8.5 which is the big brother to the 7.5 rearends that came in the 170 straight 6, 4 lug Mavericks :bananaman
Ed, Granada/Monarchs were seriously 'mixed bags' when it came to rears. I have seen I6s with all three types, including 9"... Now that I think about it, I have only found 9"s under I6 cars. I have seen one 351 car, and it was an 8"... I have never found a Granada/Monarch with rear discs myself. I know they are out there though.
The guy I bought my 9 inch disc brake rear from told me that it came out of a Granada Ghia. I've heard of a Monarch Ghia but not a Granada Ghia.
. Here's my 77 Granada Ghia. 250, auto, 8". Besides the exterior upgrades it has woodgrain tops on the door panels, fold down armrest in the front seat, seat foam is contoured, seat covers and door panel upholstery are fancier than the regular Granada and it has shag carpet. Fred
Around this place you can't help but learn something new everyday. I guess that guy really did mean Granada Ghia and not Monarch Ghia. I remember the first time I actually saw a Monarch Ghia in a junk yard. At that time, I was thinking "9 INCH FOR SURE". I was more than a little disapointed when I saw those bolts on the rear cover.
The 9" must have something to do with the tow package then! because why else the major over kill on strength with a 9", besides the Granadas and Monarchs had really weak rear leafsprings!!! My 72 Grabber came stock with a 8" w/ 3:00 gear! now its a 9" w/ 4:11 zoom gear!!!!
my 9" rear disc came from an I6 car that didnt have any kind of tow package, but had every other options and was a 'Home Office Reserve' car. mine was a '77 250, auto, floor shift, console, buckets, p/s, p/s hydroboost, 9" rear disc, traction lok, 2dr, vinyl top, A/C, factory am/fm 8track w/ CB Radio, power seats, power windows, power door locks, clock in dash and woodgrain, and maybe a couple more options that i might have missed
