sence the leaf spring location on ford cars from the late 50s into the late 70s is in the same location, it would not suprise me if just about any rear sway bar for any of the cars in that window of time will work on the maverick/comet.
bump for if anyone actualy has tried a 7/8 or 1in rear from a stang? and since global wests front tubular control arms are the same as a 67-73 stang...does that mean the same year 1 in or 1.25 front sway bar would be direct fit?????
i am not sure but i think that maverics front frame rails are closer togther than mustangs. there for the control arms will be further inward than a mustang. this will make it so the end links would not line up correctly.
Summit and JEGS have ADDCO 7/8" front and 3/4" rear sway bars for a Maverick. Since they fit full size Fords too, maybe there are thicker ones that would fit a Maverick too. Didn't check.
good to know when ii'm ready to order i'll ask for the bigger bars for the maverick...hopefully the dont act like i'm an idiot for thinking theres such a thing haha if the biggest only comes in 7/8 for rear then i'm only going to go with a 1in for the front and not a 1.25
A rear Sway Bar on a Maverick is a step in the wrong direction - it only increases the tendency of these cars to step out or to be loose in the rear under hard acceleration thru a turn. If you want more stability - add good suspension bushings , leaf springs( not too stiff ) , and some good adjustable shocks that can control the spring rate. On the other end a bigger front sway bar ( up to about an inch - max one and one eighth in diameter ) is a good thing. - The ideal setup is a neutral handling car - a rear sway bar on our old cars will not contribute to that goal.
well mine doesnt have any and the typical swaybar combos that i always seen were that the front bars were .25 more larger in diameter compared to the rear bar...but since this car is alot shorter then lets say a gm a-bosy perhaps the front needs to be more then .25 larger then the rear? so 3/4 rear and 1.25 front? and ofcourse wider rims/tires in the rear compared to the font helps keep a more nuetral balance too
