We are trying to fit Summit headers on a Windsor with solid homemade motor mounts. I don't see it happening. You can see in the picture the header touching the tower and it still needs to drop a good 2" and the block still needs to shift toward the tower another 1"

Wow...I don't know if it's just an illusion but that appears to be a mighty big tube header! Do you know the tube diameter?

Ray, it must be an illusion they are only 1.5" diameter, Summit part # SUM-G9031
Anybody got a picture or number that show the height of the engine/oil pan at the shelf above the LCA? I’m thinking the motor mounts are putting the engine in the wrong location.

The FlowTechs I have are 1 5/8" tubes, and fit very well in my 69.5. I have had them in the car for about 7yrs, and they are still in good shape. The pn# is: 12100

The Flowtechs I found by that part number say they are 1 1/2. But then again the part number I found was 12100FLT, I wonder if they have changed?

Are you running 6901 Hookers with a 351W? There was a post later in this thread that says they don't fit. Hoping you can shed some light on that.

Eddie was just helping out a member that posted in the thread thinking that we were talking about a 302. He let him know that the 6901 fits 302s fine and that 302s and 6901s were not the topic of the thread.
    6901s do not fit 351w in Maverick/Comets.
They WILL bolt to the engine outside the car.
They WILL fit larger cars with 351w due to larger engine bays.

So while the 351w can use a 6901 in some cars, it cannot in ours.

I believe the best bet for a 351w, OR a 302 that can use a slightly larger tube, is going to be the Crites Restoration headers.
They are the only header I know of that will fit a 302 OR 351w in a Mav without issue. And with a 1.75" tube, they are a good size for either engine, unless it is really mild.

These headers have not been out long, but a couple of members have used them and posted only good things, no matter if putting them on a 302 or 351w. So it a positive sign.

You know, there are a few combos of factory mounts that can be used for a V8 Mav, and they all set the engine at different heights, supposedly.
So I don't think you have much to worry about on how high or low the engine sits (within reason). The big thing is the side to side. Then worry about height for hood clearance. The wrong height setting with your homemade mounts would surely be noticed quickly with the lack of hood clearance.

    Just thought of something though.
The stock frame mounts are offset so that the engine mount bosses on the block are NOT right over the crossmember.
If I recall, the frame stands, and even the engine mounts are biased to the firewall.

Someone here made the mounts like you did, and didn't take this into account. They had all sorts of issues with header fit, radiator clearance, and tranny mounting at the crossmember.
They fabbed up a bunch of parts, and modded everything to fit before realizing what they did. They would have had less heartache if they just slid the engine back.
They even retubed some of the primary pipes on their headers if I recall!
