Hey Alan, are you sure they are the same height?

I have yet to see one (300) in a Maverick that didn't need the hood cut for carb clearance.
They sure look taller too in the pics.

I guess I need to see one in person to get the right perspective.

I don't have all the 6 cylinder engines any more to go and measure them again side by side but when I was racing them I had both 240 and 300's in my Maverick. I still have a 240 in it now, although my son had it almost ready to come out last fall so he can put in his 302. I will take a picture before its out though. I'm pretty confident on the measurements I gave earlier. If I am out it would be in the height of the 240/300 vs 144/250 and it would only be 1 inch max caused by where I had measured on the oil pan and valve cover. I didn't cut the hood to make them fit. I used an edelbrock manifold and edelbrock four barrel carb before switching to the turbocharger. The hood did require a scoop to allow the turbo to fit because I needed a 2 inch riser and a 1/2 inch thick adapter plate to mount everything, clear the waste gate and get a big enough oil return line to fit. I had a 5/16 oil pressure line but ended up needing a 3/4 drain return line or else the oil just seemed to back up. I would get blue smoke poring out of it and I cooked two turbos before believing it needed such a big return.

One more go at this. I"m not going to be offended if I'm wrong! So could someone go and measure their 144/250 sitting on the shop floor or hanging from their engine hoist and compare their numbers to mine and could someone else go and measure their 240/300 and compare their numbers to mine. I only gave my measurements to try and help someone answer their question.

I know the the mid '60 Ford Galaxie's and Customs had a 240 six for a base engine.
