I also finished modifying the hood latch, so you can't open it from the outside. you have to pull the knob under the dash first, like all the modern cars. I just have to finish it up and i'll post pics asap Done: http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=45250
Okay, I think I have the solution... Inspired by maverick75, I also used hood springs from a Maxima (two Maximas actually) but I used older ones, like '86ish. They are much longer. I tried to do this in a more typical configuration, but having the actual "shock tube" laying over the shock towers was a no-go on my car. The hood wouldn't close right. But the way I've done this... The tube doesn't lay over the shock tower, just the much thinner rod. The hood closes perfectly with no interference (took a lot of measuring to get that right, I will post my measurements if anybody else wants to do it) and best of all the hood is raised significantly above where the stock prop rod puts it. This means no more scalp wounds for me! The only down side, those tubes are rather big, and sooner or later they might get in the way. But will they get in the way more than the prop rod? I don't know. Is it worth the trade to have the hood raised much higher? I think so. And for 99% of the reasons I raise my hood, this won't be a problem. I check my fluids more often than I change my battery... Here are some pics. Pardon my awful camera and dirty car.
For what it is worth.....one can go to an RV/Camper store and get these support shocks in lots of different lengths and they are also rated by "pounds" (as in the lbs. type). They also sell hardware to mount them with.
