i have purchased a 72 comet to replace my wrecked 72 maverick grabber. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=54351
my maverick was wrecked by a girl who rear ended it while on her cell phone.

i will be transferring most of the parts from the maverick to the comet.
i plan on putting the maverick front end on the comet making it a comrick.

im going to switch from carb to efi. ill be using a megasquirt system. im really considering going turbo. my motor is 11.5 to 1 compression. i plan on using e85 to cope with the compression. i want to be right at 500hp. thats the assumed limit of a factory 5.0 roller block.
ive been looking on turbo forums and they believe that e85 will work with y compression. they also suggested that i might be able to use premium fuel with a methanol injection system. it will be a good learning experience.

im going to build a custom stainless steel fuel cell with an aeromotive in tank pump. im looking into doing stainless steel 1/2 fuel lines the length of the car. just need to find tubing that is bendable.

im going to do the g-force t5 into this car also.
it will get the custom dash out of the maverick.
its going to get a cage again.
im going to narrow my 9" just a 1/4 inch on each side. im geting rid of the drum brakes and will be putting willwood disks on. my tires would just barely rub on the outer fender so the 1/4 inch should fix that.

i am considering chaning what wheels i will put on the car. two of my draglites are damaged from the accident so i need to buy two new ones anyways.

im going to go with the satin black paint again.

ill be taking lots of pics and posting them as i go.

oh and ill have agreed value insurance on this car!!!

i'll be watching this build for sure..when you shorten your housing another 1/4"..is it that easy to shorten your axles as well? what do you cut them with?

will you be using the rocker mouldings? maybe you could try to get the moulding off the mounting clips without damaging them and be able to salvage them. i'd be interested in the mounting clips!

i cut the axles with a chop saw then using a bench grinder to clean up the cut.

i just cant do the comet front end. the grill is really broken up, and the bumper is bent.
    my maverick stuff is perfect.
    comrick is even more different.

I can't wait! I never finished my Maverick/Comet mix, the barn that it was in collapsed...If there is one spot that the total Maverick design falls flat, it's the tail lights.

Good luck on the build! I too like the comet rear panel and in your situation, I'd probably do the same thing. Good Comet small front bumpers are very hard to find.

A thought on your narrowing. You might want to get your brakes 1st as the rotor hats tend to be much thicker than drums(mine are 1/4" thick) and could offset your 1/4" and put you right where you started.

Agreed. I would do exactly what Brant is doing in his situation.

Couldn't agree more. Changing the taillights was one of the most satisfying mods I've made.

Subscribing to the project thread ... really admired the black Mav ... this ought to be fun to watch going together.

Looks like you have a great starting point ....Light Metallic Green with a Grey Gold interior.... (just like mine ....). I'll be keeping mine green (Legend Lime ....05-06 Mustang color), but I will be the first person to tell you that Grey Gold will wear on you in short order. :p
